Our Family Story
Portuguese immigrants brought malasadas to Hawaii. Leonard Bakery made them famous.

Instructions

Dissolve yeast in warm milk, let sit 5 minutes.

Mix flour, sugar, eggs, butter, and yeast mixture until smooth dough forms.

Cover and let rise 1.5 hours until doubled.

Heat oil to 350°F.

Pull off golf ball-sized pieces, stretch slightly, and fry until golden, about 2 minutes per side.

Roll immediately in sugar while hot.
Tip: Can also fill with custard or haupia.
Portuguese fried dough coated in sugar. Best eaten warm from the fryer.
